Every listing on this site carries a model code, because the code is how a parts yard keeps a 2005 Electra Glide Ultra Classic separate from a 2005 Electra Glide Standard when both are on the floor at once. Riders tend to know their bike's name and not its code, and then they get to a parts diagram, or one of our listings, and meet FLHTCUI for the first time.
Here is how to read one. The examples are the codes that are on our shelf in Euclid as of September 13, 2026, with a count of how many listings carry each, so you can also see which bikes we dismantle most.
The shape of a code
A Harley code is built left to right: the family, then the chassis, then the model, then the trim. Take the most common code on our shelf, FLHTCUI (319 listings):
- F: a Big Twin. Everything that is not a Sportster or a V-Rod starts with F.
- L: the wide front end with the 16-inch wheel and the big fork. FL bikes are the Electra Glides, Road Kings, Heritage Softails and Fat Boys. Where the second letter is X instead (FXD, FXST), it is the narrower Sportster-style front end: Dynas and most Softails. An X later in a code, as in FLHX, is a different letter doing a different job; see the Touring table.
- H: the Electra Glide line; FLH has meant that since the 1950s.
- T: the Tour Glide-derived rubber-mount Touring frame that every Electra Glide has ridden on since 1983.
- C: Classic trim. U: Ultra trim, which adds the Tour-Pak, lowers and the full audio.
- I: fuel injected. Harley used the I on injected bikes through 2006; once every bike was injected in 2007, the letter went away. FLHTCUI is therefore a 1995 to 2006 injected Ultra Classic; FLHTCU is the same bike from 2007 on, or a carbureted one before that.
So the same bike can carry two codes depending on the year, and the letters tell you which side of 2007 it is on before you look at anything else.
Touring: FLH and FLT
| Code | Bike | On our shelf |
|---|---|---|
| FLHT | Electra Glide Standard | 156 |
| FLHTC / FLHTCI | Electra Glide Classic (I = injected, to 2006) | 148 / 136 |
| FLHTCU / FLHTCUI | Electra Glide Ultra Classic | 252 / 319 |
| FLHTK | Ultra Limited (2010 on) | 167 |
| FLHTP | Electra Glide Police | 74 |
| FLHR / FLHRI | Road King | 30 / 48 |
| FLHRC / FLHRCI | Road King Classic | 12 / 97 |
| FLHRS | Road King Custom | 5 |
| FLHP / FLHPI | Road King Police | 0 / 49 |
| FLHX / FLHXI | Street Glide (2006 on) | 262 / 5 |
| FLHXS | Street Glide Special (2014 on) | 56 |
| FLTR / FLTRI | Road Glide | 15 / 15 |
| FLTRX | Road Glide Custom (2010 to 2013), Road Glide (2015 on) | 53 |
| FLTRXS | Road Glide Special | 8 |
| FLTRU | Road Glide Ultra | 17 |
The letters after FLH sort the Touring line: T Electra Glide, R Road King, X Street Glide, P Police. FLT is the frame-mounted "shark nose" fairing, so FLTR is Road Glide. K is the Ultra Limited, S on a Touring code is Special or Custom, and SE after any of these is a Screamin' Eagle CVO. Trikes carry TG (FLHTCUTG Tri Glide) or are FLRT (Freewheeler).
Dyna: FXD
Dyna is the D. The family ran from 1991 to 2017 on a rubber-mounted, twin-shock chassis with the narrow FX front end (except one model). The codes, and what we have from each:
| Code | Bike | On our shelf |
|---|---|---|
| FXD / FXDI | Super Glide | 80 / 19 |
| FXDC | Super Glide Custom | 67 |
| FXDL / FXDLI | Low Rider | 72 / 28 |
| FXDWG / FXDWGI | Wide Glide (WG) | 135 / 27 |
| FXDB / FXDBI | Street Bob (2006 on; the same code was the Sturgis and Daytona in 1991 and 1992) | 25 / 46 |
| FXDF | Fat Bob (2008 on) | 47 |
| FXDX / FXDXT | Super Glide Sport / T-Sport | 0 / 3 |
| FXDS | Dyna Convertible | 4 |
| FLD | Switchback (2012 to 2016), the one Dyna with an FL front end | see Dyna shelf |
Softail: FXST, FLST, and the 2018 reset
ST is Softail. Whether it starts FX or FL tells you the front end: FXST bikes have the narrow front (Standard, Custom, Night Train, Deuce, Springer), FLST bikes have the fat front (Heritage, Fat Boy, Deluxe). Heritage Softail parts are listed under their own collection because there are so many of them.
| Code | Bike | On our shelf |
|---|---|---|
| FXST / FXSTI | Softail Standard | 34 / 0 |
| FXSTC | Softail Custom | 3 |
| FXSTB | Night Train | 19 |
| FXSTD / FXSTDI | Deuce | 12 / 13 |
| FXSTS | Springer Softail | 0 |
| FLSTC / FLSTCI | Heritage Softail Classic | 156 / 51 |
| FLSTF / FLSTFI | Fat Boy | 25 / 35 |
| FLSTN / FLSTNI | Softail Deluxe (2005 on; FLSTN was the Nostalgia in the mid-1990s) | 3 / 15 |
| FLSTFB | Fat Boy Lo | 0 |
| FLS | Softail Slim | 0 |
In 2018 Harley rebuilt the Softail line, folded the Dyna models into it, and dropped the ST from the codes. The new bikes are two letters for the front end and two for the model: FXBB Street Bob (10 on the shelf), FXLR Low Rider and FXLRS Low Rider S (36), FXFB Fat Bob, FLFB Fat Boy, FLHC Heritage Classic, FLSL Slim, FLDE Deluxe, FXBR Breakout. An S on the end of a 2018-and-later Softail code usually means the 114 engine or the S performance trim. Parts from these do not cross to the 1984-to-2017 Softails; it is a different frame, engine and suspension.
Sportster: XL
XL has meant Sportster since 1957. The number is the displacement, the letter after it is the model. XLH is the older form of the same thing, used on 1986 to 2003 bikes; the H has no meaning you need to care about today.
| Code | Bike | On our shelf |
|---|---|---|
| XL883 / XLH883 | Sportster 883 (base) | 240 / 23 |
| XL883C | 883 Custom | 70 |
| XL883L | 883 Low, later SuperLow | 71 |
| XL883N | Iron 883 | 53 |
| XL883R | 883 Roadster | 0 |
| XL1200 | Sportster 1200 (base) | 170 |
| XL1200C | 1200 Custom | 45 |
| XL1200L | 1200 Low | listed under XL1200 |
| XL1200N | Nightster | 19 |
| XL1200X | Forty-Eight | see Forty-Eight shelf |
| XL1200V | Seventy-Two | 0 |
| XL1200S | 1200 Sport | 0 |
Sportsters never carried the I for injection because they went injected in 2007, the year the letter was retired. A 2006 Sportster is carbureted and a 2007 is injected, and the code is the same.
The suffix letters, in one place
| Letter | Means | Watch out |
|---|---|---|
| I | Fuel injected, 1995 to 2006 | Absent from 2007 on; absence does not mean carbureted after that |
| C | Classic (Touring, Softail), Custom (Dyna, Sportster) | Same letter, different meaning by family |
| U | Ultra | Touring only |
| K | Ultra Limited | 2010 on |
| P | Police | Police bikes have their own harness, seat and some electrical |
| S | Special, Custom, Springer, Sport or the 114 engine | Depends entirely on the family and year |
| X | Street Glide (FLHX), Road Glide Custom (FLTRX), Forty-Eight (XL1200X) | Three different bikes |
| WG | Wide Glide | Dyna |
| SE, SE2, SE3 | Screamin' Eagle, the CVO models | Different engines, wheels, paint and often electrical |
| ANV | Anniversary edition | Cosmetic; parts are the base model's |
| TG | Tri Glide | Trike |
Where to find your code
- On the title and registration, usually spelled out.
- On the VIN plate on the frame neck. The VIN does not spell the code out, but characters four through seven encode the model and the tenth character is the year, and any dealer can turn a VIN into a code in seconds.
- On our listings. Every part we sell is tagged with the donor bike's code; you can search the site for it directly. FLHTCUI alone returns 974 listings as we write this.
If you are trying to match a part rather than a bike, the code gets you to the right shelf and the part number gets you to the right part; here is how to read one of those.
Search the full inventory, or start from your family: Touring, Dyna, Softail, Heritage Softail, Sportster.
